We had a wonderful family camping trip down south. We spent a couple days at Capitol Reef National Park in Southern Utah. The park campground was full, so we actually camped outside the park in Dixie National Forest at Singletree Campground. It was GORGEOUS! I had no idea that southern Utah was anything more than sand and lizards! How wrong I was.
The sight of the brilliant red rocks and cliffs against the green of the vegetation is just stunning. Pictures do not do it justice. Our campground was amazing. We were at 8300 feet elevation in a beautiful pine forest! Again-- I had no idea that Southern Utah and pine forests went together!! The campground was situated on a ridge overlooking Capitol Reef. The sunsets were amazing. We got lucky too-- although we were in Southern Utah, the temperatures stayed cool and it was even overcast part of the time.
We had a great time spending relaxing days enjoying each other, and enjoying nature. We took a hike to a pretty little hidden waterfall, saw the sights, and visited the old town of Fruita inside the park. We also took a peek at where Grandma and Grandpa Cable used to live! The first picture is of Joey sitting on her "baby elephant" at the campground.
Sorry...you can not convince me that Southern Utah is anything but sand and lizards...and snakes (shudder).
